A Mighty Fortress: Lead Bomber Over Europe $39.73 A Mighty Fortress is the personal account of the Captain and crew of a lead bomber in the enormous formation raids made by the 8th Airforce during the last few months of the Second World War.It is an extraordinary tale of heroism and bravery on the part of the entire crew of just one B17 amongst hundreds – but the one B17 that meant most to them.Flying a total of 27 missions before the war came to an end in May 1945, Alling tells, with great restraint, the story of what it was like to be there, over the skies of enemy territory, constantly on the look out for German fighters; of the enormity of some of the raids they were part of and the consequences for those on the ground; of the planes around them that fell out of the sky under enemy attack, the horror and the determination to succeed. The book gives a unique insight into the lives of one crew of one plane as the War neared its end.Charles B. Alling received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters during the Second World War. He graduated from Yale University in 1947. In 1988, he retired and studied Ethics at Oxford University Graduate School in England. In 1989, he founded the Alling Institute for Ethics. The institute is affiliated with The Foundation for Leadership and Ethics in New York City of which Alling is Chairman Emeritus. Alling serves on the Board of Visitors of the Air University at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama, an appointment by former Secretary of Defense, Bill Cohen. He lives in Kennebunk, Maine. In a fascinating way, Chuck Alling recalls his days as a pilot flying B-17′s over Germany. He is truly a member of ‘The Greatest Generation’ and from his book, writtenfrom the heart, people can learn a lot about the laughs and the tears of World War II. – Former President George H. W. Aftermath $1.01 AFTERMATH is set in the blue-collar town of East Breed’s, Pennsylvania. It is the dead of winter and the town simmers with barely concealed prejudices and unspoken rules, dividing the rich from the poor, the successful from the struggling. One Friday night in the parking lot of a chain restaurant, the tension erupts in a brutal fight between the privileged boys from St. Brendan’s and a group of kids from the local high school. Casey Fielder, the restaurant’s manager, watches the melee but does nothing to stop it. Once before he had called the police, only to be reprimanded by the home office. This time, he sticks to the corporate rules. When the fight ends, Colin Chase, a handsome, cocky student at St. Brendan’s, is left severely brain-damaged. In a compelling and at times heartbreaking narrative, Brian Shawver portrays the lasting effects of one night. Casey, ostracized by his unforgivable failure to act, loses his job, his girlfriend, and his sense of self-worth. For Lea, Colin’s mother, the incident ironically offers a way to reclaim the defiant, arrogant son she hardly knew and could barely love. Although she hopes that the guilty boy will be found and punished, Lea can’t escape the feeling that Colin somehow brought the horror upon himself. As she looks for clues that will help her understand him, she discovers his apparent devotion to a young woman named Jenny, and she seizes on this relationship as the key that will finally allow her to love her son unconditionally. |

Classic Jack $9.98 Studs LoniganThe film adaptation of author James T. Farrell’s Studs Lonigan trilogy takes place in the slums of Chicago’s South Side in the 1920s. It centers on the growing pains of the eponymous hero, including his tempestuous relationship with his father, his attempts to make easy money with his buddies, and his randy ways with the two women in his life. Studs has a lot of growing up to do, and the way he handles these and other situations may very well determine what kind of man he will become…The TerrorA young officer in Napoleon’s army (Jack Nicholson) pursues a mysterious woman to the castle of an elderly Baron (Boris Karloff) where he discovers that she is the pawn of an old witch bent on driving the Baron to suicide. Directed by Roger Corman, with the aide of such friends like Francis Ford Coppola, this movie was filmed in only four days. Corman, who is notorious for his unique style of filmmaking, continues to entertain with this creepy, yet delightful film. The Wild RideThis black and white cult classic stars Nicholson as a rebellious punk to the beat generation, who spends his days as amateur dirt track race car driver in between partying and trouble making. Curse Of Blondie $7.82 Blondie returns with their long-anticipated new release on Sanctuary Records, The Curse Of Blondie. The band comes back to reclaim its crown as America’s greatest pop band with an album of all new material, which is their first release of all new material in five years. The Curse Of Blondie is the follow-up to their critically acclaimed reunion record, No Exit, which was released in 1999 and spawned the Top Ten hit Maria. This release is the band’s eighth studio album – first for Sanctuary – and is the most musically accomplished and surprising of their long and amazing career. The first single, Good Boys, recaptures the classic Blondie sound that propelled Deborah Harry and company to stardom over twenty-five years ago.The Curse Of Blondie is an album of extraordinary richness and variety filled with strong songs that have come to typify the sound that is Blondie. The album starts off strong with Shakedown , a state-of-the-art R & B hip-hop gem, and moves onto major pop tunes like the infectious Hello Joe (which is dedicated to Joey Ramone), to a variety of quirky and charming excursions–a rewrite of a traditional Okinawan folk song Magic (Asadoya Yunta) and a cosmic, free jazz-tinged ballad Desire Brings Me Back that is reminiscent of the Blondie standard Cautious Lip. The Curse of Blondie showcases the true musicianship and expert songwriting that Blondie has demonstrated throughout their career. The Curse of Blondie? It’s been a standing joke for years, says Debbie Harry, Every time something weird would happen we would say, ‘It’s the Curse of Blondie.’ A lot of people take it seriously, but it’s silly. It’s sort of a Vincent Price, horror movie type title. I think it’s lucky. |

This book is a vivid, fictionalized memoir of that year in the trenches. Through the intertwined stories of teachers, students and patients, it explores issues like: What happens when teaching and healing come into conflict? When is a new treatment to prolong life a good idea, and when is it a disaster? How did lawyers and bean-counters get so much power? And when do relationships between doctors and other staff go too far? This honest account is startling and sometimes shocking-but always gripping. |

Doghouse $24.98 The latest and most outrageous in a wave of UK comic horror films like Shaun Of The Dead, Doghouse is a raucous, balls-out funny spin on male insecurity over their own masculinity and vengeful women. Unfortunately, they end up in an isolated town infected with a bio-weapon that has turned all the women into the man-hating monsters the lads always suspected women were at heart. The guys spend less time bonding and a lot more time fleeing from hairdressers, nurses, schoolgirls and other iconic female figures all looking to snip away with scissors and swords and literally do what the guys have been fearing for years. Deftly satirical, witty and just bloody good fun, Doghouse is the most original battle of the sexes in years. |

Masters of Horror-1st Season/Volume 1 $39.97 John Carpenter changed the course of cinematic horror with Halloween. Cigarette Burns is equally challenging and mysterious, and goes deeper into obsession as a young film fanatic tracks down a fabled film that drives its audience mad… to the point of murder.Dreams in the Witch-House reunites director Stuart Gordon (Re-Animator) with the world of H.P. Lovecraft. There’s something quite mythological about the mysterious house a young student takes up residency in, and Gordon takes us further into the dark madness than expected.Chocolate, based on a short story by writer/director Mick Garris (The Stand), takes an obsessive love story and turns it into a tale of horror. Perhaps true love is impossible… at least in a Masters of Horror story.Dance of the Dead, director Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) is the only film in the series to date to be set in an apocalyptic future. Based on a short story by Richard Matheson, Dance tells a tale of the dead being revived to entertain the bored hoards of the future.Don Coscarelli’s Incident On and Off a Mountain Road breathes new life into Joe Lansdale’s classic horror story. Coscarelli, who came to prominence with his Phantasm movies, presents a backwoods Chainsaw-like story, putting a strong female protagonist up against her right-wing, survivalist boyfriend, as well as a deformed killer in a shack in the woods…Clive Barker’s short story Haeckel’s Tale is the series’ first historical costume drama. John McNaughton, who created the unforgettable Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, brings the dead to life in a story that owes a lot to Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, Edgar Allan Poe, and Hammer films. But McNaughton takes us far beyond where erotic and horrific elements combine to create a different kind of life after death. |

Sleazemania: The Complete Collection — NEW DVD!! $22.99 Ever since the original SLEAZEMANIA exploded onto the video landscape nearly a quarter of a century ago, I have been besieged by people clamoring for first a laserdisc and now an official DVD release. Well, at long last, here they are, all three original volumes on one mind-snapping dvd, transferred from the first generation masters, warts and all. At the time (1985), there were only a handful of trailer compilations, usually specific to one genre like horror and hosted by the likes of John Carradine and Elvira. I decided on no talking heads, hosts or whatever, and went straight for the jugular, pure sleaze and exploitation. In the ensuing years, most of the classic titles appeared on labels like Rhino and Something Weird (Pin Down Girls, Curfew Breakers, Jailbait, etc.), and I premiered many of these myself on the various labels. THE SMUT PEDDLER has become legendary and eventually inspired a rock band and even a wrestling tag team peddling smut on their way to the ring! Here’s what you get:The original SLEAZEMANIA–Early classics like MARIJUANA (complete with the forbidden nude scenes) and LASH OF THE PENITENTE (early S lots of colorful STRIPPERS; some landmark Herschell G. titles, the notorious SMUT PEDDLER, and a whole lot more. (60 min., color & b&w, 1985)SLEAZEMANIA STRIKES BACK–The beat goes off with more classic strippers and an accent on Ed Wood Jr., including the notorious Bela’s Bondage Boutique ; major Herschell titles and more than I can possibly list here. (60min., color/b&w, 1985) SLEAZEMANIA III: THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE SLEAZY With a breathtaking title sequence patterned after the popular ROCKY III, this series hits it’s zenith with a focus on the After Midnight 50′s burlesque series; Dance Hall Racket with Lenny Bruce, and some classic Doris Wishman titles. The final mysterious segment MONDO PSYCHO has kept people guessing for years. (60 min., Color/b&w, 1986) |

The Films of Tim Burton $24.95 Most Tim Burton films are huge box-office successes, and several are already classics. The directors mysterious and eccentric public persona attracts a lot of attention, while the films themselves have been somewhat overlooked. Here, Alison McMahan redresses this imbalance through a close analysis of Burtons key films (Beetlejuice, Ed Wood, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow) and their industrial context. She argues that Burton has been a crucial figure behind many of the transformations taking place in horror, fantasy, and sci-fi films over the last two decades, and demonstrates how his own work draws on a huge range of artistic influences: the films of Georges Mlis, surrealism, installation art, computer games, and many more. |

Underworlds Magazine No. 1 $6.1 UNDERWORLDS is a tri-annual paperback magazine that seeks to create a bridge between crime fiction (especially, but not neccesarily exclusively, of the noir school) and horror fiction. Because of its general air of emotional and psychological darkness, as well as its frequent themes of hopelessness, betrayal and passions gone wrong, the crime fiction of such writers as Jim Thompson, Cornell Woolrich and David Goodis shares a lot of resonance with horror fiction (some of the above referenced writers have produced what could arguably called horror fiction in the past, like Thompson’s ending to THE GETAWAY and his novel THE KILLER INSIDE ME). UNDERWORLDS (a double edged title, as it has different-yet-similar meanings in both crime and horror fiction) seeks to allow writers the opportunity to explore the nexus between these two genres, and gives readers of both genres a glimpse into the world of the other. |
