How To Run A Star Wars Themed Birthday Party
Although the original Star Wars films are decades old, the Star Wars theme remains a popular favorite among fans of all ages. Kids find the Star Wars world to be an infinitely fascinating world in which to allow their imagination and fantasies to take flight in that galaxy far, far away. If your special birthday child is a fan of these films, this is a fantastic themed party to run.
Almost compulsory is to have your guests come dressed as their favorite Star Wars characters from any of the six films. To make sure this happens, it’s a good idea to send out a themed invitation that clearly states that it is to be fancy dress. Add images on the invite to give people an idea. From the brown Jedi robes to a yoga mask to a full storm trooper outfit, the possibilities are huge. Include a competition for the best dressed, that usually helps.
Firstly, it’s important to bring the theme to light in a way that allows everyone to enjoy themselves. Depending on the children’s ages, you could have a classic Star Wars event with any of the original Episodes or even all 3 (IV, V, and VI) showing one after the other throughout the party. This is perfect for a party planned to be overnight or all day sort of party as it allows breaks in between the showings with plenty of time to incorporate some serious snacking or playing. It also allows you time to prepare food, games or just relax without interfering with the DVDs being played in the back ground. For older children having parties lasting the weekend, you may even want to show the entire series of films over several days.
If you are creative, you can have a session where guests make up tall tales about what their character has done. This creates a sort of role-playing atmosphere for the party that can be a huge amount of fun. If this isn’t enough activity and you want a little something to wear the kids (big or small) out, set up a Jedi training academy. Set up an obstacle course for everyone to follow and a series of exercises similar to what Luke went through in The Empire Strikes Back. The winner can get some Star Wars themed award for giggles and a little added entertainment.
No birthday party is complete without a cake. Most bakeries are likely to have a great form cake on hand or in inventory for Star Wars because the theme remains so popular. If not, however, there are great cake ideas online that work beautifully for a Star Wars theme with home made birthday cakes. It’s really great if you can try one of these because it will be something a little different from what everyone else who does a Star Wars themed party will have. Of course you could always go with a background of stars and the original Star Wars logo painted in yellow. Simple and yet completely appropriate.
A Star Wars themed birthday party is an entertaining and fun style of themed birthday party that’s often as entertaining for the parents as the children. May the Force be with you.

21 Nights $99 21 Nights–a first book by Prince and celebrated photographer Randee St. Nicholas is a stunning multimedia volume offering a rare glimpse into the life, lyrics and mystique of one of the most notable and prolific musicians of our time. This beautifully designed photographic essay flows from Prince’s sensational, unprecedented, record-breaking, sold-out 21 concerts in 21 Nights at London’s 02 Arena in 2007. Giving insight into his dueling worlds of performance and solitude, 21 Nights incorporates Prince’s evocative poetry and lyrics to new songs and other selections, and 124 full-color, sumptuous never-before-published images by Randee St. Nicholas. As part of the multi-dimensional experience, it will also include Indigo Night, a CD–available only with the book–capturing Prince’s after-hours, live after-show sessions–rare and profound moments of musical genius. 21 Nights takes the reader from the passenger seat of a limousine zipping through the streets of London to his sleeping quarters in a luxury hotel. In between we see him and his phenomenal band of musicians, singers and dancers backstage in the make up room to onstage, bathed in purple lights and a fog of gray smoke. Like a movie-in-a-book, readers are taken on his journey from London to Prague, in a style that takes glam rock to a new level. Then there is poetry and lyrics that reveal the heart and soul of Prince–in addition to his incomparable talent. Going beyond the catchy hook, he expresses himself on everything from the destructive forces of war, greed and superficiality the life giving energy of love, beauty, and–of course–music. |

African Settings in Contemporary American Novels $107.55 Africa has long captured the Western imagination as a land shrouded in danger and mystery. British and American novels written before World War II established popular conventions and stereotypes about Africa that have been increasingly challenged by contemporary American novels set in Africa. Kuhne’s book overviews the ways in which Africa has been employed as a powerful setting for American novels written since World War II. Kuhne argues that contemporary American novels with African settings are largely didactic, that these novels convey specific lessons about Africa and Africans, and that they compare African and American cultures in order to evaluate and critique the two worlds. The book begins by summarizing the conventions and themes Westerners have traditionally associated with Africa and by detailing how British and American authors from Aphra Behn to Ernest Hemingway depicted Africa before World War II. It then looks at contemporary American novels set in invented African nations, novels that typically suggest that the problems that trouble actual African nations are the result of colonialism. A separate chapter then examines the African novels of African Americans, which generally aim to correct the historical record, refute stereotypes, and detail the horrors of the slave trade. The volume also looks at genre fiction set in Africa, while a final chapter discusses postcolonial novels with African settings. |

America $32.64 In 1999 Black Sparrow published Ed Sanders’ America: A History in Verse, Volume 1, 1900-1939. This second volume continues the series, covering the years 1940-1961. Inscribing the historical period in that speeded-up dream of history which marks the Sanders docu-epic style, this installment begins and ends with America on the brink of a war and great changes — in 1940 with greed & evil / somewhat in check / when compared to Europe , and in 1961, at the beginning of a decade / that revealed the best & the worst / of a great nation .Sander’s patented signature in poetry is an imaginative compression of historical fact into poetic myth; his mode of compacted history , employed in such earlier Black Sparrow volumes as Hymn to the Rebel Cafe, Chekhov, and 1968: A History in Verse, reminds us repeatedly of Pound’s critical insistence on economy in poetic writing (dichtung=condensare). Angry, wistful, defiant and extremely funny, Sanders’ reinventions of historical worlds offer a moving masque of time constructed out of multiple narrative aspects and tones, skillfully and variously implemented by rhetorical techniques of chronicle, anecdote, document, reportage, paean and polemic. Poetry should again assume responsibility for the description of history , Ed Sanders proclaimed in his momentous 1976 manifesto on Investigative Poetics. Dedicated since then to a relentless pursuit of data , Sanders has distinguished himself as the historically engaged poet of his generation, the one poet of imagination whose work also brings us an important vision of a world existing outside itself. |

An Evening When Alone: Four Journals of Single Women in the South, 1827-67 $9.69 An important contribution to southern women’s literature, An Evening When Alone presents the journals of four very different women who, although their lives were worlds apart, each lived and wrote in the South during the years 1827-67. A Virginia gentlewoman with an ironic wit, a Northern governess living on a Mississippi plantation, a high-society belle from South Carolina, and an aging spinster struggling to raise her sister’s children — their varied stories have all been preserved through their own conscientious writings. Intimate and revealing, these journals provide refreshing insight into the joys and travails of ordinary single women in the nineteenth-century South: courtship, disappointed love, illness, the gratifications and pains of female friendship, the grief of the Civil War, the ambivalences of family life, and the difficulty and consolation of religion. This moving volume will speak not only to historians of the South and scholars of women’s writing, but also to anyone with an interest in nineteenth-century southern life. |

And the Crooked Places Made Straight $28 David Chalmers” widely acclaimed overview of the 1960s describes how the civil rights movement touched off a widening challenge to traditional values and arrangements. Chalmers recounts the judicial revolution that set national standards for race, politics, policing, and privacy. He examines the long, losing war on poverty and the struggle between the media and the government over the war in Vietnam. He follows feminism”s second wave and the emergence of the environmental, consumer, and citizen action movements. And he explores the worlds of rock, sex, and drugs, and the entwining of the youth culture, the counterculture, and the American marketplace. This newly revised edition carries the story into the angry 1990s, in which the shadow of Vietnam still hangs over national policy and the social ethic of the sixties is overshadowed by a conservative counterrevolution against taxes, social programs, and the powers of the national government. |

Bealby a Holiday $43.95 1915. English novelist, journalist, sociologist, and historian, famous for his works of science fiction, Wells’s best-known books are The Time Machine, The Invisible Man and The War Of The Worlds. In Bealby a Holiday we are introduced to young Bealby who was determined he would not be a servant. So opposed was he to the very idea that he ranted and rallied against his mother and quite wore her down with his protests. Tantrums aside, the young boy had to accept his lot in life-at least for the time being. And so he was sent to Shonts, the big country house, to work as a steward’s boy. But Bealby hadn’t accounted for a host of guests arriving for the weekend, and certainly nothing in his short life had prepared him for the arrival of the eloquent, but totally eccentric Lord Chancellor. This was to be a position that Bealby would not soon forget. See other titles by this author available from Kessinger Publishing. |
